Horizon Systems, Inc., a leading provider of high-quality pneumatic conveying systems. Located in Lawrence, Kansas, Horizon Systems boasts over 180 years of collective experience in the bulk material handling industry.
Due to their rapid growth, Horizon Systems recently selected Encompix ERP software to replace INMASS, an old DOS-based system they had been using since the early 1990s. INMASS lacked many of the capabilities found in modern, Windows-based systems and became a limiting factor in Horizon Systems’ continued expansion plans.
“It was very difficult to train new employees to use the old system,” said Wes Kuhl, president. “There were no search capabilities and restrictive character fields forced you to know what you were looking for, making it difficult for new employees to access the information they needed to efficiently perform their job functions.”
Up until recently Horizon Systems just supplied standard equipment. Now their business model has expanded to include designing and building custom equipment, as well as installation services. “Our old system couldn’t handle these requirements, so we built a custom system to support that part of our business. This led to duplicate data entry between the two systems,” said Kuhl.
Horizon selected Encompix because of its flexibility, scheduling, and AutoCAD integration and that the system can be used with little or no customization. “Right from the start we felt comfortable with Encompix as it uses the same project nomenclature that we use at Horizon. Because it is an integrated system, we will eliminate the duplicate data entry. We feel that Encompix will help us improve our business processes and become far more efficient,” said Kuhl. |
